Description
METAL GEAR 1/100: REX
Metal Gear Solid is a stealth action game directed by Hideo Kojima. The game was developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Japan and first published by Konami in 1998 for the PlayStation.
It is widely considered one of the greatest and most important games of all time, and is heralded as the game that made the stealth genre popular.
This is the third canonical title in the Metal Gear series, the direct sequel to Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake.
REX was the ultimate Metal Gear, as it was not only capable of launching a nuclear weapon to and from any point on the globe, but also doing so in an “undetectable” and “untraceable” manner.
All previous Metal Gears were just mobile land-based nuclear missile launch systems, little more than the land-based equivalent of ballistic missile submarines.
The REX used a rail gun, which fired much smaller projectiles without chemical propellant and contained stealth technology – factors that made it virtually invisible to radar.
It thus deals a fatal blow to the “no first strike” principle of mutually assured destruction – whoever controls it can launch a nuclear attack on any target at any time, without warning before impact.
Additionally, its missiles are powerful enough to destroy underground bunkers, a lesson that was learned from the Gulf War.
